Stephen Rouse — Common Sense Economics

Stephen Rouse

Founder, Common Sense Economics

I spent six years in government building forecasting models and reshaping national housing programs.

I left because too much good work gets buried under bureaucracy. The data that should drive real decisions is scattered across organizations that were never designed to work together in the first place.

I started Common Sense Economics to bring it all together.

What I Do

I help clients turn messy data and gut feels into rigorous analysis they can actually act on.

I've done this for a long time: at CMHC, I drove pricing and model reforms for the multibillion-dollar Portfolio Insurance product. At the BC Ministry of Health, I developed a comprehensive physician workforce forecasting model covering every specialty in the province.

Canada has a lot of great housing data, but it's fractured and missing context. With CSE, I built The Canadian Housing Atlas — supply and demand data for 150+ cities across Canada, all in one place.

Whether you're trying to figure out where the housing market is headed or put a number on a decision you've been struggling with — I can help you get back to trusting your gut.

If you're a developer, investor, or policymaker trying to make a big call, let's talk.
